Who would play your book character in a movie?

If you took Dar Williams and made her look 17. Not that she doesn’t look young now. Oh…

NO OFFENSE DAR WILLIAMS! I THINK YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!

Who would play your book character in a movie?

I thought Dakota Fanning would make a perfect Ellie McDoodle since she’s a really good actress.
It’d be easy to add freckles and eyeglasses to her face.
On the other hand, my book is a cartoony graphic novel. So maybe the movie would be animated, and Dakota would only do the voice.

On the third hand, my 9 year old daughter Emily just volunteered to play Ellie in a movie.
So it looks like we have a range to choose from. : )

Who would play your book character in a movie?

I have no idea. Most of the young black actresses out there now are older than my MC. So it would have to be a fresh face who is actually a pro. It would be cool to see some new actress make a name for herself playing Mina Mooney.

Who would play your book character in a movie?

My choice would be someone who is unknown but who can sing: part of the story is that my character is a kid who isn’t noticed and doesn’t want to be since, from his point of view, being noticed only leads to trouble. I do have a visual image of Augie—a shy, short, scrawny boy with narrow features, stringy brown hair and brown eyes hidden behind clunky glasses. But once you translate a book into a movie, different factors come into play, so I’d leave casting to someone who actually knows the business. :-)

Who would play your book character in a movie?

The entire time that I was writing my book I envisioned Hayden Panettiere (she’s the cheerleader on HEROES), as my main character, Aspen Brooks. It was a bit jarring to get a cover with a brunette on it (even though I love it).

Quote from Ruth McNally Barshaw: “I thought Dakota Fanning would make a perfect Ellie McDoodle since she’s a really good actress.”

No fair, Ruth! That’s who I was thinking of to play my little Ida May, before I read your post. Now everyone will think I copied. :)

Then again, considering how many years it will be before the movie version of my book is released (ahem), maybe I’ll go with Julia Robert’s daughter.

Who would play your book character in a movie?

What a fun question! I actually put together a “cast list” for The Swan Maiden’s supporting characters, with pictures of French actors and Olympic athletes, to help me visualize them. (Isabelle Adjani, Fanny Ardent, Emmanuelle Beart, Catherine Deneuve, Tony Estanguet, Tcheky Karyo, for those playing along at home.)

For Doucette, I used a picture of a family friend. She’s chosen another career path, so my second choice would be an “unknown,” who would put her own stamp on the character.

Who would play your book character in a movie?

My main character Julie (Rapunzel’s daughter) is twelve. So I would hope she’d be played by an actual kid, which cuts out pretty much all the actors that I’ve heard of. If it were someone who is already famous, I think the movie would end up looking like GREASE with a bunch of 35-year-olds bouncing around pretending to be young. No disrespect meant toward GREASE.

Who would play your book character in a movie?

You know, even though it sounds like a game I’d love to play, I’ve never cast my novel with actors. I suppose Andrew could be played by a really young Johnny Depp or Christian Slater. Jasmine could be played by Kirsten Dunst or a teenage Drew Barrymore…as long as they were “Gothed out” a little.

Right now, I’m working on my soundtrack, because that’s a project that sounded interesting to me!

Who would play your book character in a movie?

I haven’t spent much time thinking about that, so I have no idea. What I did think about was music for a movie score and I really, really like David Gray’s stuff, so I spent most of my time imagining his songs as background music for my book.
